When people receive a cancer diagnosis, they understandably are focused on the treatments they receive. Why, however, is research about the basic biology underlying cancer cells important to finding new treatments?
By studying the basic biology at more detailed levels (molecular, even quantum) the more likely we are to discover common patterns of origin that can lead to more generally applicable treatments for broader sets of cancer types.
