In this module, we’ve learned about how ideas from condensed matter physics were able to inform particle physics. Do you see so-called “cross-fertilization” as being something that has to happen again and again in science to deepen our understandings of the natural world? Why?

Yes, I regard this as most fundamental to gain a deeper inside, e.g. the discovery that the spin direction of electrons can provoke longitudinal molecules whereas the other direction result in clumsy molecules (life, dead matter) was only possible with an interdisciplinary team.

If the particles initially didn’t had mass(before higgs field gave them mass) , how did they existed physically?
What’s the physical interpretation about existence of these particles even? -

“If the particles initially didn’t had mass(before higgs field gave them mass) , how did they existed physically?
What’s the physical interpretation about existence of these particles even?”Mass is not really the amount of matter in an object, although it is often described to us that way in physics classes. Mass is a characteristic that enables particles to interact gravitationally. It is not essential for a particle to have mass, any more than it is essential for a particle to have electrical charge.
Nevertheless, the question of what is the physical interpretation of existance is an interesting one – it may even be the most fundamental question. What is left when we strip away the gravitational, electromagentic, strong and weak nuclear interactions? What are the objects themesleves, the things that are interacting? -

Yes, I do. Cross-fertilization seems to be the business model in modern science. In fact it has been all the time as there have been strong feedback between scientific community and industry.

Yes, because it seems to be so important in these cases

As I wrote before, there has to be a payoff for the research at some point. Cross-fertilization not only creates use for the knowledge but it also creates business activity, bringing tax money, that brings revenue to needed research. Taxpayers don’t think highly of science that has no tangible benefit. Perhaps short-sighted but true. Taxpayers aren’t there to have the “Great Hand” pulling money out of their pockets for nothing. Taxpayers are the bosses of the government and can, by voting, pull the plug on research that is not in the public interest.

Yes, there is cross-fertilization between science and technology. In fact, it has always been.

Yes, because physics embrace many phenomena that are related with all the nature’s explanation, so it has to be cross-fertilization in many branches of knowledge

If the Higgs field imparts or transfers to a particle moving through it a given amount of mass which should be equivalent to E / c^2, does that infer that there is a corresponding depletion in the Higgs field by that amount of energy? Is there a reverse transfer of energy to the Higgs field by a particle which “gives up” its mass characteristic?

I think so, because it seems to me that the natural world is one, a unit, and matter physics and particle physics are parts of it. So in that sense, fundamentally matter and particle physics are one, and it’s not surprising that one can inform the other.
It works not only in the matter of matter and particle physics but also in many other branches of knowledge, like physics and neuroscience, biology, etc.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
Ideas across the scientific spectrum can find niches and parallels.
When reading of the Biggs field, it is easy to think it is the actual weak force itself.
This is why the Doctorate levels exist in science- the fluidity of ideas can be recognized in forms if words are insufficient.
Why this happens is explained by Existentialism. This allows us to abandon old outdated and dead science.
What is sought in ideal is truth. What often happens is survival.
The new tech labels allow the advance of leading edge science, and this is revolutionary. The new sciences renovate the old. Upheavals occur.
New tech, new borders.
Mongols raced across Asia with new cannons made to end walled city defences. LIGO allows gravitons to be utilized. We need to have mindsets in place to allow the adoption of new tech.
One such… Space age outlook can be found with Robert A. Monroe at http://www.monroeinstitute.org as he pioneers how humans are
more than a physical body
