I think that life cannot really be defined without getting into consciousness. Not individualistic but a more collective, universal, or perhaps even cosmic sense. Everything is made of information and even those things that are lifeless contain some form of atomic structure, not too different from living things. Perhaps a better pursuit than defining life, we might possibly define what matters most. Those who are dead and gone leave an echo of the lives they lived, the people they affected, the ones they pissed off. All those lives touched have been influenced by those dead and gone, in ways that will continue to shape us individually and collectively. Love is not always the answer when you consider organizations like NAMBLA existing so maybe we should focus on defining “love” instead.
