The theoretical side, because it’s the underlying mechanism behind all of the amazing features of the universe based on mathematics which opens whole new fields of study.
Both are important, but if one team discovers a new truth before the other, then it doesn’t change the actual discovery just the people who discovered it.
I think that as technology advances some ideas will be dropped, but (if it were to happen) it will most likely be to unravel some deep truth of the Universe that couldn’t have been described with some older idea or principle.
Special Relativity is truly stunning, and shows the deep meaning of spacetime and some incredible effects, however I think that Quantum Teleportation is even stranger, that you can teleport the information of a Quantum system (with quantum entanglement) to in principle be able to recreate it .
