There is practical application in simply understanding what it must mean to exist in a block Universe.
Firstly, a block Universe can also be thought of as super-determinism, or designed. Secondly, life is unfair.
So if the Universe is designed to be unfair than that would mean that; the purpose of life must be to intentionally elicit negative emotions.
The purpose of life is to harm us.September 20, 2021 at 7:39 pmCan someone please explain why the distance that the train moves, vt, is not Lorentz Contracted too? How can one section of the train be contracted and not the whole thing?
September 6, 2021 at 11:54 pmShouldn’t the horizontal clock tick faster because its Lorentz contracted though? Can someone please explain

August 23, 2021 at 3:09 amUnrelated Relativity question, but… Germaine now? Where does Brian get these names from and why they all start with G. I hope their not the name of his children lol. He’s one of my physics heroes no doubt
August 19, 2021 at 11:38 pmI’ve seen arguments against the validity of length contraction as a horizontal light clock, should actually tick at different rate than a vertical clock due to the contracted distance. You can’t have 2 different readings of time from the same source. So is it possible to perform an experiment of Brian’s concept here for clarification or has an experiment ever been conducted?

October 6, 2020 at 8:21 pmI see a lot of doubt and speculation within this thread. And as this course does not include Quantum Mechanics then you all fall within the same rationalising category, emotion. The problem is, is that this is science. So unless you have facts and figures to back up your emotional opinion, what you say, feel or express holds zero substance to the truth being learned here.
The past and future both exist because someone moving relative to you is in YOUR past, which also means you are in THEIR future. Doubters are getting stuck on the concept of spacetime. Every person on Earth holds a unique conception of time, which means objects are both in your past and your future. Which ultimately means that we don’t have free will because we can LITERALLY SEE the future.
You think you’re reading this by your own choice?…. “time is an illusion, however persistent” Albert Einstein.
October 4, 2020 at 10:02 pmI think you’re right Paul, because what if the ship literally does not change it’s velocity but instead simply arcs back to Earth. Surely that would be counted as constant velocity motion. The affect of Gravity and universal expansion must be the factors that vary the velocity.
September 20, 2020 at 4:46 amA clip within the Pitfalls Module shows how everyone who is not moving relative to another will experience the same reality https://youtu.be/HxH4pKLqUBY. The problem with this is that NO TWO people have ever, or will ever experience exactly the same velocity within this universe.
This is because everything is moving. The Earth is rotating, the Earth is rotating around the Sun, the Sun revolves around the galaxy, the galaxy itself is moving all the while the universe itself is expanding. Which actually means every single person on Earth experiences a unique reality in the way no two fingerprints are the same.
And if you think standing still on Earth next to someone is moving the same velocity, think again. This diagram I created depicts the speed difference as every circumference of the Earth rotates at a different velocity. And on a larger scale, every circumference of the Milky Way is rotating at a different velocity.
Seems, every person past, present and future will experience a unique experience of reality.

It’s really depicting how each human has a unique reality for them. And the fact that the past, present and future all exists suggests that the universe is designed specifically for the observer. It’s about us. Each of us can be thought of as essentially the center of the universe.
September 6, 2020 at 10:29 pmI haven’t done any formal maths in 10 years but I stumbled across this youtube channel which describes the geometry of Special Relativity brilliantly; https://youtu.be/1rLWVZVWfdY.
I would encourage everyone to view this playlist as it gives a visual understanding of the mathematics.
August 15, 2020 at 5:45 pmI just started studying the mathematics to understand this concept. And yes, when you see how spacetime diagrams can show past and future exist for an observer you will all understand. Can’t understand it without the maths though
August 5, 2020 at 3:40 amI need help understanding why direction of motion either away or towards equals past or future. How do we know someone traveling towards you has a “now” equal to your future?
