1.5 Power Laws, Scale Invariance, and Diversity
  • Scaling-related phenomena in the natural world can be looked at quantitatively, such as through power laws. 
  • There are two kinds of scaling:
    • Isometric scaling: proportions remain the same and the scaled version is self-similar to the original.
    • Allometric scaling: proportions change and the scaled version is not self-similar.
