Note: Exercises are designed by the World Science Scholars team to reinforce essential ideas covered, while allowing you to assess whether you “got it.” Accordingly, when presented with a question, you must select the best answer, and then click on the blue Check button. Next, you’ll see whether you’ve answered correctly or incorrectly, along with a corresponding explanation. Exercises are not graded, and you can always go back and restart the quiz.

What is a Cellular Automata?
A Cellular Automata (CA) consists of many cells that form a list or matrix where users can take initial states and apply specific rules to determine future or final states. The state of each cell is typically represented by the color of the cell.

Instructions
1. Explore 1-Dimensional Elementary Cellular Automata: Start with a 1-Dimensional Elementary Cellular Automata (1D ECA). Below is a link that will take you to a simulation in a free play mode where you can explore how the model works.

2. Challenge Yourself: After you have explored the simulation, click Start Quiz to assess your ability to determine the rules and emergent pattern.
