2.3 The Observable Universe

During the inflationary period, the patch of repulsive gravitational material from which the presently-observable universe originated expanded exponentially. If inflation happened at the energy scale suggested by grand unified theories, then it would have doubled in size approximately every $10^{-38}$ seconds. In this demonstration, you can examine the approximate size of the presently-observable universe as it rapidly grew, comparing its scale to that of various objects.
