Rule 5: Forces—objects don’t always move in straight lines at constant velocity due to the influence of forces, the most fundamental of which may be gravity. Instead, they travel in curves at varying velocities.
The easiest way to generate curved paths is through the geometry of space and time. General relativity emerges from curved spacetime.
Without imposing a limit on curvature, spacetime may curve in on itself and produce holes, like black holes and wormholes.
Rule 6: Fix the initial state as simply possible. The best guess is that the universe started out as a single point and expanded enormously, thereby inflating to the universe we have today.
We have not figured out how to combine all the rules, especially Rule 3 (quantization) and Rule 5 (gravity and curved paths).
The concept of determinism states that all behavior is fixed by laws.
The concept of super-determinism states that the actions of any experimenter or observer are determined by these laws.
The concept of pre-determinism states that it is known ahead of time what is going to happen.
Professor ’t Hooft says that super-determinism is compatible with free will and does not imply pre-determinism.
Professor ’t Hooft disagrees with how physicists currently understand quantum mechanics, that we live in a statistical world controlled by wave functions.
