3.4 How Sound Originates

The concept of a sine wave to describe sound really doesn’t work here, and we need to think about a whole new concept altogether.

Instead of using a single sine wave, let’s use a collection of sine waves, each at a different frequency and with a different amplitude. I think that by using a collection of sine waves we should be able to approximate any complex, real-world sound.

We should try to determine the frequency of a sine wave that best approximates the real-world data. While not perfect, this can allow us to use the concept of sine waves to describe sound.
