  • However, the Scientific institutions and the Governments can verify and discuss and examine the proposal as many times as required when a brand new and challenging proposal comes before them, instead out rightly rejecting it. They can constitute a special committee only to ensure not to reject a meaningful proposal. As is evident from the history of any science, any proposition / hypothesis first is ridiculed, then theoretized and finally becomes part of every day life. Professor Ghez’s work and her narration of the real story is thrilling and inspiring enough to make next generations to plunge into action.

This is how I understood the process: When astronomers use a land-based telescope to observe a distant signal in space, a signal is passed through the atmosphere. Then, an atmospheric noise distortion is introduced when the signal passes through the atmosphere. To overcome this problem, an artificial reference star is created by sending a laser into the ionosphere at a well known distance. The corresponding atmospheric noise distortion introduced is measured. Computer is used to change and modify the shape of the deformable mirror so as to invert atmospheric noise distortion from the received signal from the actual distant star. The idea is to remove undesired atmospheric noise part from the finally received signal making use of adaptive optics but not to remove the real noise distortion from the atmosphere.

Its really exciting to learn the hardships faced by scientists before any new thing invented/discovered becomes useful and trivial to humankind. Exploration today in any area of nature became invariably interdisciplinary. The moral and total support from the states and people for the serious science projects are bound to be imminent. A lot many interesting, bold and crucial things have been there in this presentation.

This talk made every attempt by her expertise to make even a layman to conceptualize fundamentally what a black hole is. Of course the deeper understanding with all its complexity may be the job and requirement of a professional physicist or a scientist. I believe there is nothing wrong in taking that “Black holes can be understood as the massive astronomical bodies whose infinitely large mass is compressed into infinitely small volume space creating infinitely strong gravity enough to trap and hold every thing in it and not to allow anything escape from it”.

LIGO means a lot everything to me. Comparison of LIGO with other such projects may have a little to do with. It has its own contribution to the enhancement of human understanding of the nature. It is obvious every later development will be more advanced and prestigious to its previous counterparts. What ulstimately matters, I believe, is that, how scientific, meaningful, democratic, considerate, peaceful we all are evolving into day by day in the human society.

I strongly believe teaching really matters in questioning that was already created and established. It more over is platform paving ways for creating new ideas, new knowledge when the teaching is serious, sincere and objective and spirited enough.
