  • Certainly. I have a notebook and pencil for these WSU courses. In that notebook I draw rough models in addition to calculations.

    Keeping data publicly open is important in order to keep as much people as possible in the loop thus several not so clearly visible errors. Being part of the team means more resources available.

    Soon announcement: “Common knowledgebase” is increased and larger group of people can estimate the new results
    Delayed announcement: Errors clearly visible to the small group of people can be detected, thus more confirmed data into the “common knowledgebase”

    Other teams who gave up have published their data and combining this data to “my data” and recycling this new mass of data perhaps provides new opportunities. The most valuable pieces of data are those dead ends found earlier.

    What would it take for you to consider an artificial intelligence conscious and capable of receiving human rights?
    AI is computer and is not human, so I would deny human rights for computers.

    No. But most certainly computers can simulate consciousness. In future perhaps “better” than humans.

    Yes we are. However, the exact duplication of human consciousness is not possible. We can build computer consciousness.

    Consiousness is connecting to the information, realying it, examining it, processing it…etc. I still receive and send morse code. I don’t think individual dots and dashes as the rhythm of the symbol is in my head. When learning back in the early 1980’s, at very early stages I had to concentrate in every dot, dash and space length. Suddenly I managed to copy complete symbols or even whole words into the “internal buffer” in my head and from there to paper. This of course requires some consciousness despite some operators could copy messages just before falling sleep. In their message form they usually miss spaces between words. When some skill is learnt better and better the level of consciousness is lower than at the initial phases of learning. In my opinion solving equation problems is in fact this connection. Consiousness #1 can set a problem, #2 can solve first part, #3 can solve the rest of the problem and #4 reads the phases from paper. Inormation is passed between the consiousnesses. So, I think information has crucial role in consiousness.

    I think so. Several courses in this WSU-platform (Special relativity non-math, String theory and Nature’s Consituent) show clearly that in same reality is heavily dependent on the state of the observer. Perhaps this course has to be added to the list. One can argue that other observer’s reality is an illusion.

    I’m advocating more powerful and advanced units. This is due to the fact that more spin off innovations and technology transfer will essentially take place. In these megaprojects there will also be megachallenges, thus industry must develope new technology.

    Yes, I do. Cross-fertilization seems to be the business model in modern science. In fact it has been all the time as there have been strong feedback between scientific community and industry.

    I think so as these megaprojects usually generate more innovations and new business in every segment involved.

    I’d prefer theoretical, or philosophical more likely. Theoretical physicists study several years of math in order to understand higher physics. The modern experiments need huge investments, expensive accelerators etc. Basically home-lab experiments are for general interest. On the other hand one can learn and deepen the existing knowledge with simple experiments and calculations.

    I don’t think a single equation is enough. Even after the Universe reaches “universal” 0 K temperature it would be impossible task. This description in a single equation model, or even single elegant equation model could have been possible in white hole singularity. Whether it is possible in black hole, I don’t believe that either as the region inside the event horizon is essential part of the Universe.

    In order to take the necessary leap ahead we must more or less gradually accept the new competitive theories.

    Interesting question indeed. I think we should give try and get rid of the fundamentality. However, this is rather philosophical question. So, are there virtual strings and dimensions existing only when needed?

    In string theory space is not fundamental. White hole and black hole are the most extreme examples in addition to the expanding Universe.
