at those speeds a little gap in the road wouldn’t bother anything anyway. but the math says he will have no gap to skip.
March 22, 2023 at 9:03 amso I’m sending you a 15′ pole to store in your 10′ barn. now store it for me without letting it stop or it won’t fit anymore! ahh fun in physics.
March 22, 2023 at 8:28 amwell no because the pole never did fit in the barn it only appeared to.
March 20, 2023 at 11:21 amwell the picture you paint in my eye says when a gets back to b it will be the same point in space and only increase in the time axis i.e. future
March 20, 2023 at 10:56 amif you are standing on a treadmill it would be the belt that is moving not you you would be still because you are walking at a speed equal to the motion. same on the turntable relative to the far off star your not moving unless the whole turntable is
March 20, 2023 at 8:35 amI like how this approach tends to reinforce the visuals introduced by the formulae.
March 17, 2023 at 12:47 pmthey used special relativity to write the Galilean transformation? hmmm.
March 17, 2023 at 10:28 amit works, while I believe there will come something new to reshape physics into the physical observations, just a thought.
March 17, 2023 at 9:40 amIn frame 3 you state that gracie’s clock starts at 144, but start moment should all be zero because there is no relative motion yet.
March 15, 2023 at 12:28 pmsomething that keeps rummaging through my mind, is this. It always seems that the platform perspective has to be pointing straight forward at the center of the number line. Where as in the physical world to see the other points on the line you have to change that perspective. So I see other factors coming into play, like distance from train, distance from tracks, is the platform located even with train at start of measurement or end or is it arbitrary along the tracks ( or off ).
March 15, 2023 at 11:27 amwhile I agree that light is a constant that we know, change it to single photons then throw out 1 at a time we can calculate our answer, Now we replace photon with baseball and then we come to the same answer just with speed of proton vs speed of baseball. Ratio’s will remain the same so the answer won’t change.
March 15, 2023 at 10:32 amAnd then we add gravity and all clocks become unsynchronized!
March 14, 2023 at 3:01 pmWhile I do understand that it would have no effect on Lorentz Contraction or the math at all to this point, I still can’t intuit that height is unaffected, when I look left and right along a highway with telephone poles along side. The farther they are from my perspective the smaller they appear. Now I know it won’t effect Lorentz contraction, but it seems to still be valid. I count proof in astronomical observations of red shift, let me explain. Go back to the light clock, up down up down, now imagine the red shift. The farther away the source photons originate the longer the frequency and the lower the amplitude as well. So in my mind that photon train not only slowed time it also shrunk in height. Maybe even to the point of no longer being detectable (Dark Energy?).
In the example that vexed me was a third perspective in the triangle. the other ones were linear, while this introduced to me another point that could be anywhere in space. and my mind went to all positions, towards train, behind me, farther down the track, so I could almost visualize a spot and single moment on the train when the slopes could be equal.
March 13, 2023 at 6:46 pmThe base would appear shorter to George so the slope would change
March 13, 2023 at 5:09 pma lot of these comments seem to be more philosophical than scientific or mathematical. IMHO
